What to expect in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy sessions

Sessions last 50 minutes. Depending on the needs of each individual, treatment usually lasts between 6 and 20 sessions. Progress is reviewed throughout.

Initially, we would discuss what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to be different in your life, and we would talk about the ways that CBT can help. Through conversation, we would gain an understanding of your problems – how they have developed and what is maintaining them.

Learning new alternative ways of coping will help you to overcome these problems and move towards achieving new goals in life.

My aim is to develop a trusting relationship in a confidential environment where you feel safe and able to challenge unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns. Where appropriate, I can  introduce ‘mindfulness’ practice into sessions.
